A former car wash in Parachute Colorado has been turned into a drive-through weed shop called Tumbleweed Express Dispensary which will make it the first of its kind in the state of Colorado. The town Parachute has a small population of only 1,100 residents and believe it or not, marijuana sales account for 1/3 of the towns tax revenue. Town officials expect this new drive-through weed shop to generate even more tax revenue for the town as they expect people who drive through Parachute to stop by for the drive-through experience.
Needless to say, there was a lot of red tape Tumbleweed Express had to clear before being issued their permit by the city. The dispensary will, like all dispensaries in Colorado have to follow state law which means only people over the age of 21 are allowed to purchase marijuana from their drive-through store. In 2015 alone, $12 billion dollars in revenue was reported for legal marijuana sales. Local business in Parachute love the idea because it will also attract window shoppers who make purchases because they are in the area.
Marijuana Sales Trend
A noticeable trend for the marijuana industry is that there seems to be two categories being created for marijuana sales which focus on either experience or convenience; Tumbleweed Express seems to follow the latter. Many marijuana shops up until this point have focused on offering shoppers an enjoyable and relaxing experience.
I’ve heard many shops in Colorado be described as if the shopper was walking through an Apple store. iPads and smelling stations were setup through the store to educate the consumer and offer the consumer smell samples of the different strains. Conversely, some stores in states like Oregon have focused not only on offering the consumer an enjoyable lengthy experience but convenience as well. Many delivery services have popped up in Oregon and recently the state has started issuing delivery licenses through the OLCC (Oregon Liquor Control Commission). These marijuana shops that offer delivery services seem to focus on the convenience aspect of the marijuana sales which I believe to be a positive for many reasons. One of the biggest positives of marijuana delivery is that many people who have been prescribed marijuana by their doctor may not have the ability to drive to the dispensary because of their affliction or perhaps may be too inebriated to drive, so offering delivery of cannabis can help prevent car accidents and provide comfort to those who are not as mobile as others.
Future of Marijuana Shops and Weed Delivery Services – Looking Forward
I believe marijuana sales will continue to evolve within these two categories of experience and convenience. Tumbleweed Express is the first of i’m sure many drive-through dispensaries that we will see popup in the future that focus on offering the consumer a convenient way to purchase marijuana.
